Rhododendrons-Azaleas
In South Africa, rhododendrons, commonly called azaleas, are popular ornamental plants. These evergreen shrubs are valued for their attractive foliage and abundant blooms which appear in late winter, spring and autumn. They produce single or double blooms in a variety of colours, including pink, red, white, purple and orange. They vary in size, with some being small low growing plants and others growing into larger shrubs up to 2m tall. Rhododendron grow well in acidic soil and benefit from cool roots, especially during hot summer months. They do not like their roots disturbed. Deep mulching is recommended. Azaleas grow well in pots with good quality soil and require frequent fertilizing to flourish.
Clematis
Clematis are deciduous creepers that display the most beautiful showers of blooms from late spring until late autumn. There is no other creeper that can compare. They are easy to grow if they are planted in
good quality draining soil and fed well during the growing months. There are 3 distinct pruning types. Each plant is labelled with their pruning code when sold.
They need support to climb and do very well in pots. They like cool roots but don’t mind warm tops. They require deep planting and frequent pinching as soon as they start to grow as it warms up after
winter. The more they are pinched, the more stems you will get and the greater the display. All of this can be demonstrated at our nursery when you visit. A care guide will be given to you with your purchase. Our clematis range now includes 64 colour varieties.
Camelia’s
Camelias are a relatively new addition to our nursery with only a few colours available at present. As they are slow growing, our aim is to produce large plants for sale. They grow wonderfully on dappled shade and add colour to your winter garden.
